Anglo American – Competency Refresh
To support individuals in driving their ambition to be the leading global mining company, Anglo American wanted to develop a new behavioural framework that would be applicable across the organisation, both now and in the future.
To deliver this ambition the People Development Way was launched, which describes what is expected from Anglo American employees to deliver great performance.
The behavioural framework was made up of three clusters with nine separate competencies, described at four levels. It gave a clearer view of exactly what individuals needed to carry out their current role, as well as detailed information about what would be needed to progress to the next level, thus providing a longer term view of career and development needs.
To bring the framework to life, we also created a development portal. This contained tools and resources to help individuals take ownership of their development and their career and could be used as a starting point for individuals to have ongoing conversations about performance and development with their line managers.
To launch the People Development Way, the behavioural framework and the development portal, a training programme was designed and rolled out globally, alongside performance management. This gave individuals across Anglo American the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the new framework and understand how it applied to them, their current role and most importantly, how bringing this to life would contribute to Anglo American achieving their ambition.
